Definition: blog
(noun) a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual that is written in an informal style.
(verb) to add new material to or regularly update a blog.
Technically then, this is no longer a blog, since an eight month gap hardly falls into the accepted interpretation of ‘regular’. Oh I’ve taken plenty of photos – just been rather sidetracked for a while. And right now, a much needed break away in Tenerife to just ‘rest and recuperate’ included a decision to not even bring my cameras.
But a photographer never goes anywhere without a camera and I knew I had in my pocket the safety backup of my iPhone 6S in case of withdrawal symptoms. So with iPhone, iPad and my AdobeCC subscription I was ready if any photo-opportunities presented themselves.
There, of course, lies a really nice challenge – no special lenses or high resolution cameras – just make the best of what you have. No one would argue that a camera phone can take on a hi-res camera for maximum quality and flexibility so you can’t always capture the image that you had in mind but mobile phones can be more than good enough for screens. But it is still up to the photographer to ‘see’ the image possibilities – both before in the capturing and after in the potential to process.
The iPhone software is good but I use my Lightroom Mobile app to capture photos – it has many adjustable settings like a ‘real’ camera and captures them in raw format as DNG files which are much more flexible than JPGs for post-processing, again, done in Lightroom Mobile.
All the photos below were taken during a short visit to El Medano. The wind was intense and the parasails and windsurfers were out in their hundreds. The light had a special intensity and the photo opportunities seemed to be everywhere.
